How Your Pocketbook Affects Sustainability

This presentation gives participants 10 key questions to ask themselves before purchasing a product. “Green” consumer terminology is covered along with the meaning of product labels. Participants will gain insight into the links between consumption patterns and environmental degradation and will learn how purchasing choices impact and influence new products and manufacturing. Utlimately, participants will learn how to become more conscious consumers.

Greening Business One Step at a Time
This presentation offers step-by-step information on how to start sustainability initiatives within a small business. Participants will gain understanding of how to conduct their own “green” audits and develop their own sustainability plans for their company operations.  A wide variety of operationally-focused sustainability issues and topics are discussed including: waste management, reduction of paper, supplier and purchasing guidelines, green communications and energy and water conservation. Participants will also learn how to get their teams and staff engaged in the process to integrate “green” values as part of their company culture.

Becoming a Paperless Office
In this training, participants learn how to minimize paper in the workplace. Paper is the number one material thrown away and also one of the biggest polluting industries. The typical U.S. office worker uses about 10,000 sheets of copy paper each year. Participants will learn how to reduce paper use by becoming more organized electronically with improved data and information management. Printer and scanning options and strategies are discussed, along with policies to minimize copying and duplication. By implementing paper reduction methods, an office can reduce waste costs by 20% and significantly improve productivity and efficiency.

Eco-Style Your Life
This presentation provides incentives for individuals to become more sustainable in their personal lives. Various eco-steps and ideas are explained along with their level of difficulty and cost. Areas of discussion include: energy savings, water consumption, waste reduction, transportation use, food choices and consumer purchases. Participants will leave this presentation with their own personal “green plan” of actions they can take immediately toward an eco-friendly lifestyle.

About the Speaker: K.J. McCorry is the CEO of Officiency Enterprises, a consulting firm specializing in efficiency, productivity and sustainability. She has been an avid environmentalist for over 25 years, cultivating sustainability within her own personal and professional life. She has served on multiple local organization boards committed to social and environmental responsibility including: BSR Colorado Chapter and co-President of CORE (www.corecolorado.org). She is a MBA graduate of University of Denver.
